Since the beginning I have had a few foxes on the go, mostly black but a few Lilac as I really like the colour combination. As space in the shed is usually reserved for the tans I decided to move the few foxes and Otters I had at the time onto other hands - It was at this point that my son who had previously had a couple of pigs as pets decided that he would like to 'keep the white and cream' bellied ones!
Shortly after the decision to keep a few foxes for Lewis to show we had a lovely litter of two black foxes born - a boar and a sow, both with very promising markings. Lewis named them Padmai and Anakin, and although he has other hobbies that come and go (as it is with most pre-teenage boys!) his affection for his two favorite foxes remains constant.

Life on the Lilac side........making magic happen.
As a new venture in 2011, Tartuffe has joined forces with a very good friend (and relative newcomer to the world of cavies0, Jessie Chaston of Magic Stud, in producing some lilac foxes and otters.
We were very fortunate to be offered some top quality stock from Henryan Stud that was taking a break from the world of showing due to work committments, and I didnt really need that much pursuading to get my hands on a few of these lovely coloured cavies once again, especially when I saw them and realised their show potential.
The stud is currently headed up by the sturdy maestro 'Cheekypigs Pete' and although he is getting on in years he still manages to keep the sows busy, and we have a couple of litters planned from him with lilac otter partners. Some of the lilac lines have already headed out to other european breeders in Sweden and Denmark.
The stud numbers are currently at about 15 cavies which are a mix of foxes, otters and a few fox/otter bred dilutes, and these will form the basis of the breeding programme, where we will select for clarity of markings, the correct eye colour and eveness of the lilac top colour which, in discussions with other lilac breeders appears to be the most frustrating element to get right. It will be some considerable time before we will see the results of our efforts, as with any new venture there is a need for patience and a careful ,considerate review of the direction from time to time, but it is exciting to go back to the beginning and 'create' a line of cavies that we know will have within them in years to come the ingredients that we desire.

Two of the first lilac fox sows to come from the first litters of the project - both will stay as breeding and show sows.
