Tartuffe/Jedi Cavies keeps a small select stud of Black Otters that are mainly produced in being crossed with the black foxes.
In late 2009 we had a very lucky run with the birth of two outstanding black otter sows being born. Shown at Loughborough in November they each took the title of Best Rare Variety in different club shows happening with Ysanne taking both the Midlands Cavy Club and the RVCC title at the same show - a result indeed! Lewis named them Amee and Ysanne (names from Star Wars characters) and in 2010 Ysanne, took Best U5 Rare Variety Guide Standard exhibit at the Harrogate Championship show and came 3rd in the final Guide Standard Challenge under Jackie Driver.
Amee went to live at Eclipse Cavies soon after and Ysanne has been sucessfully shown by Lewis in the NFTCC stock shows throughout 2010.
Ysanne has appeared with Padmai and Dorcas in photos advertising the NFTCC across the country.

They come....they go.
An Updated line up with Ysanne, Dorcas and Leah standing in the place of Padmai...............Leah was always the second string show sow to Padmai, but her real merit point comes in being Ysanne's Samba's and Guinness's (below) mother - the family resemblance is clear.
Otterly Gorgeous!
The very nosey 2011 girls that Jedi Cavies has running for the show bench.
From left to right -
Sambah, Guinness (dont ask!), Rebah and Rumbah - the last two girls have a lilac otter parent.
These will be bred with a black fox boar that will be coming in from Eclipse Cavies in order to put in the very best in terms of size, colour and type into the line of Tartuffe black fox and otter.
The last proper outcross to a fox or otter was back in 2006 so it felt like time to have a bit of new blood in the shed!......I think someone has told them he is on his way!

Three Lilac Otter sows that will be the basis of the lilac otter breeding programme in 2012.
Sow on the far left has the best eye colour which closely meets the required standard, work will continue to gain a clearer pink eye whilst still retaining the required top and belly /markings colour.

Oooooo! didn't expect that to pop out!
The world of cavy genetics is fascinating, and just when you think you have it all worked out Mother Nature goes and throws in a curve ball!
Here is a black otter sow born from black otter boar to lilac otter sow that has turned out to be satin!
"Close, but no cigar........"
I also have this sow's brother.....................deep joy.
